Barcelo Hotels & Resorts acquires its eleventh property in the Dominican Republic

Barcelo Hotels & Resorts has added to its collection the Barcelo Punta Cana Resort, which was previously operated by Super Clubs as the Breezes Punta Cana. The resort includes 795 guestrooms and suites, a casino, a spa, convention facilities, and seven restaurants. It is situated located on an expansive 400-meter stretch of Arena Gorda Beach at Bavaro Beach in Punta Cana. The resort has become the eleventh Barcelo-branded hotel in the Domican Republic.


Dominican Republic becomes full member of the Central American Parliament

The Central American Parliament, also known by the abbreviation Parlacen (Parlamento Centroamericano), is a political institution devoted to the integration of the Central American countries. Since February, 2004, the Dominican Republic had special observer status in the Parlacen. On October 30, the Dominican Republic became a member with plenary rights.


Dominican Republic will host commercial summit

The Dominican Republic was chosen as host country for the next General Assembly of the Association of Small Businesses for Equal Trade (CLAC). The Assembly will be held from the 25th to the 28th of October, at the Hilton hotel of Juan Dolio. The CLAC works in defense of small producers and groups over 300 organizations from more than 16 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean.


Dominicans celebrated Columbus Day on October, 12

On October, 12, the Dominican Republic celebrated Columbus Day. Dozens of visitors crowded under a towering monument at the explorer's tomb, although the recent studies found that the authentic remains are in a cathedral in Seville, Spain.

Hotels in Playa Dorada invest in remodeling

Two hotels of the Playa Dorada complex - Jack Tar Village and Villa Dorada - invest more than 5 million dollars in remodeling. New concepts will be developed for both hotels: Jack Tar Village will be designed for a youth youth clientele, and Villa Dorada will be destined to attract couples.

Manuel Finke, Playa Dorada Hoteliers Association executive director, stated that these new concepts will entail strategic partnership with important European firms.


Beach-refurbishing project is supposed to elevate the Dominican tourism

The Tourism Ministry is going to regenerate beaches in Puerto Plata. The program covers Costa Dorada, Playa Dorada, Juan Dolio and Boca Chica. The regenerating project entails an investment of 14 million Euros (19 million USD).

Tourism Minister Felix Jimenez informed that 70% of this sum would be afforded by the State and the remaining 30% would be contributed by hoteliers. The project is supposed to elevate the Dominican tourism offer and at the same time conserve coastal riches nature diversity of the Dominican Republic.
