We went there for our honeymoon for 6 days and had a great time. Yes the rooms are a bit out dated and have a musky odor but it is a beach resort on the water, not really a big problem. Most of the staff can only speak enough English to get by so brushing up on Spanish would be a suggestion espically in the casino. We did have a few hours of water outage but that is bound to happen anywhere in the DR. The food was good. Every night at the buffet was a different theme so if you are a steak and potatoes person this place is not for you. The restaurants are excellent, the staff is more then friendly and cater to every need. If you plan on going on day trips you must book them in advance before you get there, they book quick! We went on the Outback Safari- which should be called the "Get drunk safari trip!" What a great time! This place has something for everyone, activities at the main pool, and calm at the relax pool. Nightly entertainment with a group of fun ones! We didn't care much for the choice of alcohol but didn't see many other people complaining. One night they had a "flea market diffrent things to buy, these are the same things you can buy in town for less then half of what they are asking at the hotel! Don't ever settle for the price they ask, they can be talked down ALOT! All in all we had a great time, would reccomend.
Just got back from our 2 week honeymoon at the Jack Tar and I have to say we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Yes the rooms could do with a lick of paint but they are more than adequate, and anyway this was soon forgotton when we discovered how good the rest of the complex was. The food was excellent and varied, with the 3 themed restaurants definitely worth a visit (particularly the seafood restaurant on the beach). There was loads to do in and around the main pool if you wanted, or you could just chill at the relax pool. The grounds are immaculately kept and the staff are friendly and helpful. The beach was great although the sea can be quite rough at times. All in all, a perfect place for a relaxing couples holiday at a reasonable price !
Well what can I say me and my future wife went to this resort for 2 weeks All inclusive. Upon arrival we were shown to reception and then taken to our room via a golf buggy and a very funny porter guy. When we arrived to our room it was in a style of a hut very clean very nice and kool. The 5 star rating for this place is not relly justified with the rooms however it was acceptable and at about a 3 star rating in my book. The rooms bathroom was nice but had very dim lighting. The resort itself was wonderfull the restaurants and the people can not do enough for you the reception staff were a bit grumpy at times but the chefs and the waiters in the food places were very good but I did feel for them thinking that they need more staff there to help. The animation team were AWESOME they were the nicest most funniest guys I have ever had the pleasure to meet they got you involved if you wanted and if not they were kool with that even my partner liked the kids mini disco which consisted of the usual party songs which got people perked up for the night. The bar's out there are deadly they have arum out there called 151 which is about 80% proof very strong and the measures out there for a rum and coke are 3 quarters rum and a little coke on top so its easy to get drunk very quickly. The casino that was there was a main attraction for us we were there almost every night and we won loads again the staff there were very nice and the drinks and cigarettes there are all free as long as you are playing the machines. The only thing that would stop me from going there again if there is any fault is the rooms our toilet was blocked about 4 times and you can imagine what that was like over night till the plummer came. And at night we seemed to get biten by something or another i am sure they were not mossy bited more like something that was in the bed!!! We did ask the management to spray the room about 3 times to which they did but the bites were the worst ever my partner had them all up her leg and her foot was really swollen. The beach bar was also very nice there were no reall pushy beach sellers there are a few shops near by on the beach but beware of the prices outside the resort itself has many shops with very good prices however the shop staff can at times be a little pushy and because of this lost a sell with my partner who just found there pushyness to much and walked out of the shop. Remember they do relp on us tourists to make there income but its just nice to look around a shop and not get hasstled. The pools in the complex are awesome and the little pool was the best for us as there was a swim up bar to which was awesome. There is a bank on site and there is also a cigar shop and a mini shop where you can buy most things DO NOT use these if you can there prices are terrible it cost about 9 GBP's for a small bottle of shampoo and some chewing gum and the shampoo was rubbish washing up liquid would have been better. Save your money and go to the local shop just located 10 mins walk where you can get some good stuff for a good price. In regards to excursions go for it we went on OCEAN WORLD "AWESOME" we swam with the dolphins and saw a seal show saw tigers and various birds a very good day out and lunch was also provided just had to pay for drinks. MONSTER SAFARI was great we went to the rain forest and saw local villages and was great we had the chance to buy fresh local coffee and a great drink called mammawana which is honey and rum. PARADISE ISLAND was also very good a island with white sands and clear blue sea great for the snorkeling and diving or just nice to relax take some pics and sunbath. My recomendation is GO just beware of the bites use a very good repelant and make sure you take bite cream with you. We went on the 22 March 2006 till 6 April 2006 ENJOY yourself and have fun explore the island but be street wise! Also dont even attempt to drive out there the drivers are CRAZY do so at your perrol.
