Hotel overview

This North Coast resort attracts couples and singles seeking sun, fun, and rejuvenation in an adults-only atmosphere.

A large activities pool receives sun all day. But in the afternoons, many guests prefer a shady deck surrounding a rock-lined "quiet pool" with swim-up bar. Next to this pool, an eight-person spa offers convivial, cool-water soaking.

Many guests also play the adjacent, 18-hole Campo de Golf course. One of its fairways lies between the resort's buildings and a long beach. (Golf fees are extra and are not part of the All-Inclusive Plan.)

Property amenities

Graced by tall shade trees and expansive green lawns, the 290-room resort spreads 73 multicolored one- and two-story cottages over spacious grounds. It opened in 1981 as the first of Playa Dorada's hotels and remains stylish and tranquil, with a first-rate casino and an adult disco for after-dark entertainment. The resort purifies water but recommends drinking complimentary bottled water.

Dining

Topaz - Under a soaring, thatch-roof palapa, this restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets, with theme selections at night such as Caribbean and barbecue.

Caruso - This non-smoking dinner house in the casino features à la carte Italian specialties such as Beef in Barolo along with pastas. Reservations and long pants for men are required.

Papaya - A pizzeria by day, Papaya becomes an à la carte Caribbean restaurant. Dinner selections include Beef Rolls in Red-Pepper Sauce with Sautéed Mango, fresh fish, and pork ribs. Reservations are required.

La Yola - Serving fast foods such as burgers during the day, this open-air beachfront place specializes in choices such as Seafood in Broth and Beef Tenderloin with Barbecued Shrimp for à la carte dinners. Reservations are required.

Rooms

This resort offers 287 guestrooms. Located in widely separated one- and two-story cottages with views of the resort gardens or golf course, the guestrooms are decorated in a tropical style. Decor includes rattan furniture, ceiling fans, tile floors, floral bedspreads or quilts, and dark-wood trim. Bathrooms have shower/tub combinations. Amenities include individual climate control and in-room safes (fee). Rooms are available only in the All-Inclusive Plan.
