"I was dreading it but it was fantastic!"
Food - There was something for everyone. I have crohn's disease and I have to be careful what I eat but I had no problems. Even my 20 month old niece enjoyed the food! Japanese and French were fantastic, mexican was ok and the italian was passable, just don't have the italian fish.
Entertainment - Was very spanish but that was really nice. The entertainment team work really hard and always encourage you. I learnt to salsa which was great fun and you could pick and chose what to do in the day. I'm 19 and my sister's 18 and we'd leave our parents at 11o'clock and hit the disco! It was great because I didn't need any money and there were security guards everywhere when I stumbled home at 3 in the morning!
Room - it was really nice. The maid was lovely and she always put fresh flowers in the bathroom everyday and made the towels into funny shapes. The sunken bath was amazing and the air conditioning was refreshing!
There were 7 of us, my parents, my older sister and brother in law with my niece and my sister and I. I think this holiday benifited us the most because we all wanted to do different things. It's ok for couples if you're willing to socialise or want a lazy time, otherwise you could get bored. I'd definitely recommend it for families. I'd give it 10/10 and really want to go back!
"The trip had its perks!"
We just came back from our trip and we had a lot of fun. The only down falls were some of the food and some of the other guests. The meats are not cooked for very long. And if you speak anything other than Spanish it is hard to communicate with the cooks about having it cooked longer.
The beach was awesome. All the American, Canadian and Brittish couples we met agreed that the staff was wonderful but most of the guests that spoke Spanish were very rude and impatient with us. If we were trying to communicate to the cooks they would just cut infront of us and give thier order. We found that the trips weren't that expensive.
I work at a resort in MD and the excursions we offer are in the same price range if not more. We paid $60 per person for a half day tour that included drinks, snorkling and our own two person speed boat. We paid $75 per person for a full day tour that included drinks, lunch, and a wonderful tour of the villages including a beautifaul beach (Outback Safari Tour). Yes, tips are included in your fees but when talking to the employees we found that they make about $130 US dollars a month. So we did tip but not all the time and not large amounts of money. Occasionaly we tipped the bartenders $2US. We did not tip our house keeper until the last day and we gave her $10US, but our room was cleaned every day and was always very clean.
Guest Services called our room three times through out the week to make sure our stay was going well and to see if we needed anything.
The pool was nice but it was used by hundreds of people everyday even though the staff was always cleaning it you still found some bugs and leaves in it. We did not get sick at all. The beach was very clean when we were there. Beware of topless women on the beach, there are a lot of them. When you go to the resorts keep in mind that they are very large. We are talking about anywhere from 500-1800 rooms in 1 resort, with that in mind you must expect that it is going to be very hard to keep up with the guests to make sure it is spotless.
Overall, we loved our trip we found that the only real problem was the meat. The food may sit out a bit longer than it would in the US but it didn't turn bad and the staff went out of their way to ensure you had a good time. They are very proud of their country and it is very beautiful!
