"Loved to golf course!"

My husband and I just returned from a 5 day trip to Barcelo Bavaro Golf. Our first room was large but it was on the first floor and we wanted to be higher up so we moved on our second day to a two-story duplex on a higher floor. The rooms were fairly bare bones, quite ugly in fact. ALthough "comfortable", they were very brown and somewhat run down. Oh well, we didn't plan to spend a lot of time in our room. In our first room, my husband claims that there was some sort of rodent scurrying around at night...never saw it so I don't know if there really was one.

The grounds at the resort were really pretty and very well maintained. We could walk to all the other hotels within the complex and use their beaches and pools and restaurants. The beach by the golf hotel was the nicest and most quiet. We were off season so we did not have any trouble with lines at the buffets or tee times. We could pretty much walk on to the golf course whenever we wanted! I am not a great golfer and I didn't think it was too difficult.

The food was awful in my opinion. The only halfway decent restaurant was the Mexican. I really thought the food was institutional cafeteria...

The service was okay--some friendlier than others. Bartenders differed widely in terms of how they made your drinks. I had 3 different versions of a Planters Punch...fine with me as long as there's a good amount of rum in it. Some bartenders skimped on the rum--you'd just have to ask them for more.

The Tropicallissmo show was definitely entertaining, I have never seen that type of thing before. The flea market was a nightmare for me--I got totally harassed by every vendor. I only lasted 2 minutes and then decided I couldn't deal with the hassle. One other negative--they blast music almost everywhere so it wasn't exactly a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. Once, we were trying to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail at the golf pool bar and they were blasting Rap music which I really don't care for. The music had some of the most foul and offensive language (f--k, b--th, n---er....) which kinda ruined the moment for me. I don't mind the carribean style music but really didn't want to hear gangsta rap on my tropical vacation!

Overall, the time away, beautiful surroundings and beaches, fun golf and great weather made it a nice trip.
