Transportation from airports

Many hotels in the Dominican Republic provide transportation from the airport to your accommodations as part of your holiday package. If not, there are other ways to get to your final destination. Car rental is available in all Dominican Republic's international airports. If you are not going to rent a vehicle, the most popular form of transport is to take a taxi.

Taxi fares in the Dominican Republic are fixed rates based on destination and are usually posted somewhere outside the Arrivals Terminal at every airport. Before actually getting into the taxi, confirm the rate with the driver. Some drivers can propose a lower rate to be competitive (especially if they have a smaller, older vehicle). US dollars and Euros are accepted, but prepare the correct amount of currency to pay the rate, since most drivers do not carry change, especially for foreign currency.

Public transportation can be less comfortable, but less expensive alternative to taxi. Compare: a ride in taxi from Santo Domingo Airport to Cabarete (170 miles) would cost you about US$175. Bus from Santo Domingo to Cabarete would be about 300 pesos (US$10). There are 3 major bus companies in the Dominican Republic:

Caribe Tours (phone: +1 809-221-4422)
Metro Tours (phone: +1 809-566-7126)
Terra Bus
