Cabarete
Cabarete is a small Caribbean beach town located only 20 minutes away from Puerto Plata on the northern shore of the Dominican Republic.
Cabarete has become famous quite recently - in the late 80's. It was the time, when Cabarete was "discovered" by windsurfers. Cabarete has wonderful 4 mile-wide beach. Together with constant winds and warm climate all around the year, it makes Cabarete fantastic destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Enthusiasts of these fascinating activities come to Cabarete from all parts of the world. Each year Cabarete hosts the World Cup Competition for Professional Windsurfing and the Amateur Windsurfing Cabarete Race Week.
However, there are plenty of things to do in Cabarete, even if you are not surfing. Its friendly, relaxing atmosphere helps you to forget the daily routine and enjoy the Caribbean lifestyle. Sun and fun on the beach, new friends and new impressions - what can be better for a vacation? Besides, many excursions, rafting or diving tours start from Cabarete.
But life doesn't stop in Cabarete when the sun sets. In the evening you'll find great variety of restaurants and bars just on the beach line. They welcome guests with candlelit tables and culinary treats. Sip your cocktail, taste local cuisine, and enjoy star filled sky and sounds of ocean waves.
Getting to Cabarete
The best airport to land at, if you go to Cabarete, is the Gregorio Luperon International Airport of Puerto Plata. If you fly into Las Americas International Airport of Santo Domingo, it will take about 4 hours to get to Cabarete. Bus service is available from Santo Domingo to Sosua, and from there you can take a minibus or taxi onward to Cabarete.
